I am 33yrs old and been having troubles ever since I got my tubes tied. I was told I was depressed they put me on medication for that. I had migraines alot then they tried to put me on medication for that then all of a sudden I started getting anxiety never had it before and all of a sudden I started feeling dread and doom. They said it was just my body being stressed out, but it was cause I also started to get insomnia. I had no idea what was going on in my life, but everytime I went to the doctor they just wanted to put me on medication. I also got rapid heart beats. Thought something was severly wrong with me just kept trying to figure out what was wrong with me. So they kept saying nothing was wrong with me for years I separated my self from the world never felt good always tired. I would even work out and eat right cause if they couldn't find nothing wrong I was going to try my best to use natural herbs to help me. So I was 24 when I had my tubes tied after my 2nd child. I never was told symptoms or asked for counseling. I still have problems hot flashes, tiredness, headaches, heart palpations, anxiety and painful periods also acid reflux really bad and I have no idea why nothing runs in my family of this except for my mom who also had her tubes tied. I just want help and solution. Live my life without moodiness and not feel like something is wrong with me. When I read your article it just clicked in my head. I never had no problems before my tubes being tied. I just want to live normal again. I'm only 33 and would like to be normal for a little bit. I have had stress test and needless to say i'm not a heavy person I weigh 145 and active. I have had a mri on my head and sinuses because of my headaches and sinus problems. I feel like I'm losing my mind alot, but i keep it a secret alot from my family and friends. I don't know what made me decide to type it in but something just told me to type in tubes tied symptoms and reading this article gave me so much hope. When I started to read the symptoms i started crying because people want to tell you so much that it is in your head. You start to think that maybe it is but i knew in my heart to keep trying even after 9yrs now I have something to work with. Thank you so much. One Happy Mom

It's true....and if you know anything about the human body and hormones...you would be able to see.that most of those symptoms are due to estrogen deficiency....I experience them myself....and I am only 32....its ridiculous!!!!!...I never had a problem until i got my filshie clamps 6 years ago.........and this year has been particularly bad with not even one year coming on time....I fell as though I am anovulatory........and this is causing me to not have regular periods....obviously if you don't produce enough estrogen to ovulate your period cannot follow the 14 day cycle that comes afterwards...right? Doctors can wish it away...but no woman has the mental capability of creating symptoms to this extreme....I mean how can you create something in your mind......hundreds of other women feel and experience the same thing...........but you had never read a bout the symptoms ...until you looked up your own.......or talked to other women...how is this fathomable?????? Obviously unless all of us are cosmically linked......(hmmmmm) them there is no other obvious conclusion or rational one...then.....we are all experiencing symptoms brought on my tubal ligation and impared circulation of the ovaries hence causing a deficiency in estrogen........that is ...the good kind.......there....disprove that!!!!!The burden of disproof is on the disprover........

Thank you so much for posting this information.
I was given a tl with my c/section in sept 2000, many of the symptoms mentioned have appeared over the years. I had no choice about the tubal. I was on my 5th c/section and basically was pushed into the tubal by hospital staff. I was not told about any side effects or this syndrome. I have made many visits to my doctor and told its hormonal. I have even asked if I was going through the menopause, the doctor laughed and said I was too young, I am 40 and sick of the pain, the cramps are terrible a week before I am due, I am regular as clockwork, the 1st day of my period is light and the pain eases, 2nd day and I feel like someone has got hold of my uterus and is squeezing it tightly and twisting it, the bleeding is so heavy that I am changing the highest absorbancy tampons every 10 mins, I have to use tampons and pads, I wake up in severe pain on 3rd day as I have slept on my side propped to ensure I do not turn onto my back while asleep, this is to make sure I do not bleed on my bedding. the bleed now lightens and finishes halfway through the day. But, for the next 10 days I produce a brown discharge sometimes quite heavy, with intermittent bleeds that last anything from 5 mins to 1 hour several times a day,I then have about 5 to 7 days free of pain, blood or brown discharge, and then it starts all over again!!! up till about 18 months ago I had pain 7 days before and 7 days from the bleed, total 14 days, now its crept to pain for 17 days a month minimum, but this last month I have only been pain free for 3 days, I am due my period again in 7 days. Yet according to doctor and hospital this is normal and will stop when I have completed the menopause, but until then, take paracetamol and get on with it and stop moaning, and yes it has been male doctors all the way, except one doctors visit, that was worse as the female doctor refused to ever treat me or prescribe an antibiotic ever again in my life, because I dared to ask if the tubal had anything to do with my problems, hasten to say, I changed Doctors within a couple of weeks, If my daughter considers a tubal at any point in her life, I will ensure she is armed with the information that covers both the benefit(some people actually have no problems after tubal) but also info from people like us. Hopefully this condition will be recognised soon, but I won't hold my breath lol, again many thanks for making me feel sane and letting me know there are other people suffering like me, hugs and kisses to my fellow sufferers xoxox

I am so happy i found other woman out there that understand . I had a tubal ligation with clamps in 2003 I was 23. For so long I was scared to get checked because i thought i had cancer or something really bad. the pain on my left side was so bad about 1-2 weeks before my period, every other week it seems like i had another yeast infection, i have too many of the symptoms listed. I have been everywhere (er,dr.)Ive had ultrasounds and many blood test. Ive even had my thyriod checked many times.. I know the cause of all my problems are because of my tl. I cant afford the tr and dont know what else to do.. If anyone has plans count me in.. If the surgery these doctors performed are what caused all of are problems then they should have to fix them. why should we have to pay 7-8 thousand to have our life back.

Thank you so much for posting this.

I am a single mother of three beautiful children and im 29 years old. When i had decided female sterilization was best for me, i was only 24 years old. by the time i turned 27 i started to realize something was not right and started showing symptoms of P.F.S.S.
For instance, bloating, migraines, change in menstrual cycle, and severe cramps before and after my cycle. Which was very abnormal for me.
Within the next year i would undergo inflammation of the uterus, which i sought medical help and the diagnosis was stated UNKNOWN CAUSE. I frequently visited the E.R. with no answers. Until on one particular visit, a nurse mentioned P.F.S.S.
to me. In addition to this, the doctors discovered i was forming painful cyst on my ovaries. They were forming and bursting which was stated the cause was from my clamps. NOT BEING ABLE TO RELEASE EGGS FROM THE OVARIES CAUSES TINY CYSTS. Normally eggs are released to the uterus this way. But because of my clamps stopping the natural process, they were forming in numbers and bursting. i dont know if any of you are having this issue, but the result is painful and it also has a nasty brownish discharge(old blood) that has a terrible odor associated with it.
Furthermore my symptoms are getting worse and i can relate to a lot of the symptoms on the list posted above....

But clearly it is "all in my mind." right? But they cant tell me why i get my menstrual cycle every other week now, or why i bleed so heavily i cannot leave my house for the first day. I have had biopsies, and internal exams, ect... The hospitals and my doctor make me feel as if im making it all up. Ive lost hope even tyring to go there at all. It really is depressing. lost hope.

Finally i now know i am not crazy, and i am not alone. We as women need to educate what the doctors will not. I have found my voice. Thank you for the inspiration. please continue to fight and have your voice heard. I think of my daughter, will she make the same choice? If so its my duty to inform her of any dangers in this world...not every child has that. So please lets continue and not give up. Thank you everyone for sharing. xoxo

Yeah, I suffer from PTLS and than along came PTSD...Doctors don't want to recognize the symptoms because the easier it is for men to play GOD and contribute to take/make women lives ass fragile ass possible. After all, "we are the weaker sex, right?"

I need counseling because I am a living woman that turned into a nun with menstrual disorders...... :l

Hey Dawn, nice to see you blogging again :) Sorry to hear about the rent increase: I totally agree with you, it's ridiculous to increase the rent especially using that excuse!

When we were looking around for a place here in Springfield, prices in general were so much lower than in Chicago, but we couldn't take advantage of them because pretty much all places that were semi-decent didn't allow pets.

I wish you all the best hunting for a better, pet-friendly, place!

(btw - do you consider yourself an "expat"? Would you mind if I added Misplaced Brit to the blogroll of my expat site?
