Sorry State – Part II.

Posted by: retardedrugrat on: May 20, 2008

About two weeks ago, I did a post about the sorry state of the World today and the people in it. It hit a note with a few people who left comments telling me they agreed with me. That post can be found here.

This time though, I want to talk about the events taking place. We have rising Gas Prices ($1.35 a litre in Metro Vancouver right now), rising costs of living, and wages not going up to reflect that. Some of my friends over at Mylot have started discussions recently talking about how their husbands have had to quit work, because they can’t afford the Gas to get them to and from work anymore. My honey’s best friend is on tenterhooks. The company he works for are downsizing, and his head is on the block. His wife is currently unable to work due to an auto accident she was in. She is still in a LOT of pain from that. And one of my best friends told me tonight that her husband is also on tenterhooks and may be out of a job in three weeks time.

This news certainly puts things in perspective for me. Jeff has started looking for a new job, though he doesn’t want a ‘job’ as such. He wants to be an apprentice to become an electrician. He firmly believes that the only way to make enough money to live on AND save for a rainy day, is by being in the trades industry. To that extent he’s put out resumes to a lot of places over the course of the last few days and is hoping to hear something back soon.

But as much as he complains about not wanting to work for the company he’s with right now, I know he’s better off than a lot of people. I think of my friends and his friends, who are waiting with bated breath to find out if their jobs are being axed. I think of my friends whose husbands had to quit their jobs because they can’t afford to get to and from work each day, and I know we have so much to be thankful for.

However, if we don’t change our view of the world, nothing will change. If we don’t change our habits and start to think a little more about the environment, the human race will not survive. The only question now, is whether it’s too late to repair the damage that we’ve already inflicted. On ourselves, on others, and on the environment.

Ciao.

Here in the UK, fuel has now reached £1.14 – which converts at $2.23CAN at the moment.

Our govt has even got rid of the lower tax threshold so we’re all going to lose even more money out of our paychecks before we even see it.

It’s staggering. And worrying. And disconcerting.

We just have to be strong, babygirl.
And good luck to Jeffers on his job-hunting :-D

As you said last night…it seems as though it will only get worse before it gets better. *sigh*
